25 Ways to Ignite the Spark (and Keep it Lit)

So, you’ve understood the concept of The Spark

and you want to unleash it in the children you care for or support. But where do you start to explain a concept that seems so intangible, and how do you help children to find it? We’ve got you covered.

Think of your Spark as the very best bits of you, when you’re on your A-game, feeling great and in the flow of life. It’s the zingy, fizzy energy that lights you up from the inside, so much so that people say ‘You’ve got a real spark in your eye today…’ Yup, it’s that part of you that isn’t driven by doubt, or fear or ‘what-will-they-say’ but instead is a perfect blend of the kicking, jumping, light-bulb-moment-having, action-taking human-you, with that cool, deeper, intuitive, soul part of you.

Good things happen when you co-create with your soul. When you allow your human-self to meet your soul-self: bam! There’s a Spark. Now it’s time to unleash it on the world.

Let Me At It!

We’ve created a list of 25 ways for you to help your child or teen to get in touch with the energy of their Spark and share it with the world. It’s not rocket science – being our authentic selves should be simple – but you’ll be amazed how rarely we focus on our inner world, and how much of an impact these simple steps can make to your child’s life.

Why not read through them together and pick a few to try? Remember, adults have to embody this energy to be able to model it to kids – so it’s time for you to find your Spark while you help children do the same. I’m looking at you, granny…

Care about how you feel. Yes, that means stop worrying about that negative tweet, obsessing about the state of your hair and hanging around that person who insults you all the time.

Lose yourself in a creative activity.

Move your body. No, really. Move it until it feels like you’re in the flow.

Sleep. Your human-self and soul-self are constantly co-creating when you sleep – we call it dreaming, your Spark calls it reflection time.

Smile at strangers (in a non-creepy way). You’re passing positive energy between you, and it could make someone’s day.

Talk to someone who you can tell is isolated, lonely or needs an ear.

Read books that inspire you.

Get out into nature every single day, even if it’s just for five minutes.

Talk about something you love and feel passionately about.

Slow down and really taste your favourite food. Realllllllly savour it.

Listen to podcasts about people you admire, things you feel passionate about or that uplift you. The person’s voice is resonating with their energy (which you then absorb), so choose wisely.

Become discerning about who you spend time with. Their energy becomes your energy, and vice-versa.

Bring nature into your home – plants, flowers, a small tree or a jungle, go mad!

Wear clothes that make you feel good, in colours that uplift you, for the pure joy of expressing yourself.

Become an Energy Gardener – nurture, tend to and protect your energy field.

Speak up and say how you feel, without demanding that others listen or agree with you.

Say no when you mean no.

Say yes when you mean yes.

Learn something new and tell someone about it.

Care for your physical body and treat it like the special home for your Spark that it truly is.

Don’t take anything personally. Their stuff is their stuff. Your stuff is your stuff.

Dance to music that uplifts you for the pleasure of moving your body.

Sing. Loudly.

Spend time with young and old humans. They have a lot of wisdom to share.

Create a vision board on a wall you spend a lot of time looking at. Cover every inch in pictures and quotes that uplift and inspire you.

How do you ignite your Spark?

Why not share what works for you and your child over on Facebook or Instagram?

About

the author

Hi, I'm Nikki

I created The Spark when I realised I’d lost touch with my own inner light, buried under years of over-work and overwhelm. After witnessing far too many children becoming smaller versions of themselves, shrinking back, disconnecting and becoming disillusioned, I’m on a mission to ignite my Spark to help children to find theirs, changing the way we nurture small humans into being.

What started as a journey of self-discovery is growing into a global movement to create a better childhood for all children and young people. Will you join me?
